My day #5

The end of the school year is approaching fast. I don’t have any inspiration, so I started to make magnets with some fabric scraps we have gathered this year.

I hope to get some inspiration soon, so we can give something else again to our kids coaches and teachers, besides a tiny magnet.

DIY coloring elastic

We made some puckered skirts but it took as a while to finish them as we could not find matching, thick elastic for around the waist. Only available locally was white and black which is not matching very well with beautiful fabric from Petit Pan.

Some Dylon and a couple fo washes later we had our DIY elastic.

I tried four different colors: Burlesque, Ocean Blue, Bahama Blue, and Tulip Red. Every kind of elastic gives a different result. None of the elastics color fully. 

The final result is more like a stone-washed look.

The skirts look perfect with the matching elastic, but the flower girls can see them before you all do!

My day #4

A little bag to store kitchen tools appeared to be too small for its purpose. So it got transformed into a marble bag. Fifteen minutes later we have a second marble bag, because today we are not in the mood for Double Trouble.

Double trouble

Gymnastics competition season is on. I planned to show the gymnastics bags we made for the kids to motivate them for the competitions but I will do that later. I first want to raise a concern.

We do not tend to dress the twins identical, their hair is cut differently and we do not usually refer to them as ‘The Twins’. Nevertheless it is inevitable to compare some of their actions especially as they both participate in gymnastics competitions. They are in separate classes at school, but in gymnastics they evidently have to compete in the same level and the same age category.

At the prize-giving ceremony Omar usually ends up lower than his brother on the individual apparatus and so in the overall ranking. Most children don’t like losing but it is even harder when your brother carries the medals home and you can only look and crave to have some too.

On top of that Elias cannot enjoy his wins as he feels bad that his brother misses out on the medals and he feels bad beating his brother. So either way I end up with two sad boys. Even for us as parents and their sisters it results in ambivalent feelings as on the one hand you are happy Elias won something, and at the same time you do not want to praise him too much as that is rubbing it in for the other one.

Luckily they had their last competition today and we can go back to regular training without worrying about this double trouble.

The pillows in pictures

Our sick son shows how comfortable they are.

Only thing left on my wish list is a new sofa!

Pattern: We bought the inside pillows at Ikea so we made the pillow cases to fit the pillow off course. We made pillow cases with piping as finishing and invisible zipper. You can find a dutch guideline to make your own here.

Fabric: Gorgeous fabric, that applies both for the prints and the quality of the fabric. Both the Kei and Kokka flowery fabrics were bought @ Cozette.

My day #3

Last bit of handwork is finally done. 

Easy things definitely tend to take more time. As much as 9 weeks between cutting the fabric and the completion of this project. 

No more daylight left for the remainder of the day. Hopefully tomorrow more luck.

My day #2

Sitting and waiting is not really our cup of tea. When louka had to rehearse a couple of days in a row and we could only watch, we took our scissors and some fabric scraps. Today we ironed the designs on some Tshirts.

Froy and Dind fabrics on plain Hema and Petit Bateau shirts.
